Director, Law and Human Rights

The Director of Law and Human Rights will be responsible for leading all of our organisation’s research regarding law and human rights in Malaysia. The ideal candidate will be an established figure in this field, having achieved considerable stature as an academic or practitioner.

The Director will be expected to regularly produce academic standard research papers as well as op-eds, and to be the organisation’s point person for all matters related to law and human rights.

Junior Executive, Media and Communications

The JEMC reports to the Director of Media and Communications, and assists in a broad range of duties. The position is ideal for candidates with a passion for Malaysian government and politics, and who are looking to make an impact in shaping today’s New Malaysia. The working environment will provide unique levels of exposure and opportunities to learn in this field.

We are looking for individuals who are well organised, articulate, and committed to high standards of accuracy and integrity. Detail-oriented, well-informed individuals with superior language and computer skills and an interest in research and writing (in English, Malay, and/or Mandarin) will be at an advantage. A superior command of English will be particularly attractive.

Other ancillary skills that would be advantageous include graphic design, web design, and audio/visual content production.

Research Officer and Writer (Mandarin)

The Research Officer and Writer (Mandarin) reports to the Director of Media and Communications, and will be EMIR Research’s primary officer in charge of all Mandarin-based research and writing.

The Research Officer will be expected to contribute original op-eds and research, in addition to helping translate selected EMIR Research output. Our areas of interest cover a wide spectrum of Malaysian current affairs.

The Research Officer will also be responsible for keeping abreast of all major Mandarin media and trending content, and to brief the rest of the organisation on current developments in Mandarin media.

The position is ideal for candidates with a passion for Malaysian government and politics, and who are looking to make an impact in shaping today’s New Malaysia.

We are looking for individuals who are well organised, articulate, and committed to high standards of accuracy and integrity.

Work experience in Mandarin publications, an academic environment, and/or being a published columnist will be a distinct advantage.

Research Officer and Writer, Economy and Finance

This position reports to the Director of Economy and Finance. A large portion of daily tasks will be to conduct research and analysis and to present findings in the form of research papers and very regular op-eds.

Significant mastery of economic and financial affairs, both locally and internationally, is pivotal for this position.

Graphic Designer

The position is ideal for candidates with a passion for Malaysian government and politics, and who are looking to make an impact in shaping today’s New Malaysia. The working environment will provide unique levels of exposure and opportunities to learn in this field.

We are looking to regularly produce high quality infographics and explore other effective ways to communicate data. We also require an in-house graphic designer to manage layouts for all EMIR Research publications, and assist with preparing cutting edge slideshow presentations.

Individuals with web design skills (preferably WordPress based) will be at a distinct advantage, as will candidates who also have an interest in writing on Malaysian governance, politics, and current affairs.

Intern


We are currently looking for Research Interns to assist in conducting primary research and data entry. Capable interns may also be trained to write analytical op-eds for publication in local media.

EMIR Research is most suited to young individuals interested in pursuing careers related to research, academia, media, governance or politics. Working here will provide such individuals with high level exposure as well as rare opportunities to network and build important relationships.
